What To Do If Your CPAP Hose Is Broken by Paul
Are you a first time CPAP user? There are things that you should know about your machine to keep it running properly so you are getting a steady air flow. It is important to maintain the device. One of the things you should be doing is replacing the hose if it is already broken.
CPAP hoses are important to check often. Depending on the type of hose, you will have to replace it more or less often but there are things you can do to prevent holes. For example, there are disposable hoses which don't have a long life. They are preferred by most people because they are sterile and less expensive than the permanent ones but they kink and pull more. Since they are thinner and more cheaply made they are going to get holes and ware sooner. The disposable ones can be washed regularly and can be re-used to stay free of bacteria and mold.
The permanent ones come in different sizes. Thin, regular and wide. They can also be washed in the dishwasher and will last a lot longer. They are thicker and sturdier so it will be harder for them to kink and get holes. This will buy you more time between purchases but there is more of a chance for bacteria and mold if they are not cleaned properly.
If your hose has a hole in it or is broken it shouldn't just be repaired. It should be replaced. This is to ensure the proper air pressure without breaking again during sleep. Also, the moisture level shouldn't be tampered with. If the incorrect amount of moisture is distributed you may still be feeling dry and not be able to sleep. If there is a hole in the hose you will not be getting the air pressure you need to your lungs. The machine will also be loud causing sleep interruption.
There are ways to prevent getting a hole in your hose next time. You can try bedding and hose tubing clips. This will prevent the pulling at your CPAP machine system when you move during sleep. If you are moving a lot you are pulling on the hose which is causing more ware then necessary. There are hosing clips that will clip to your bed sheets and help you secure your hose to ensure uninterrupted rest, and a longer lasting hose.
A swivel adapter for hose-to-hose connections will give you the ability to connect two hoses and have them swivel for extra freedom of movement. This will help to prevent kinking and pulling. Your hoses will keep freely flowing and keep your hose new as long as possible.
