Most people do not know what to do if there is a plumbing problem or if any general amendment needs to be carried out. The rules are pretty simple if you have the basic knowledge regarding pipes and fittings. If you notice water leaking in any area, the first and foremost thing to be done is turning off the main water supply valve. It may be located near a meter at your place where the water supply line enters in the house. Now once the cause of the leakage has been detected the diameter of the pipe and material is seen. A part may even be removed to take to the hardware store. Special care needs to be taken while matching the pipe fittings with those that have been damaged. Proper fitting of pipe flanges has to be ensured or else the leak might occur again.
If the drain is clogged, certain cleaners are readily available. But these are not the right choice in case your drain is completely obstructed. Special brushes can be purchased that can clean the clogged waste pipes. Old steal pipes, if clogged, can create a mess. The best option is to replace the entire system with plastic (preferably PVC) pipe fittings. The vertical pipes don't prove as troublesome as much as the horizontal pipes. The amount of debris accumulated is much more in the latter. The flanges also need to be changed if you are planning to substitute plastic in place of steel. Solvents used also vary.
Sometimes, your faucet may develop a crack that leads to a reduction in the water supply from the reservoir. All valves linking the faucet to the supply line need to be shut off. Removal of the pipes along with their replacement becomes necessary. If the toilet is leaking, the use of a wax seal can repair the crack. If any part in the tank has failed to function it has to be replaced from the plumbing store.
Many different types of stainless steels are being used these days due to the limitations posed by the existing pipes. Duplex pipes are corrosion resistant and remain unaffected by aggressive chemicals used as part of cleaners. Plus they are tougher than ordinary pipes. Super duplex pipes have higher levels of chromium, and thus are more resistant to acids, chlorides and other strong chemicals.
Either by the use of these pipes made of advanced materials or by the use of proper pipe fittings and projections leakages can thus be prevented.
